Mae sat on the floor of the atrium, that was slowly coming alive with new growth. Much work still had to be done, and unfortunately she knew she'd need more help than even her mother's hands could give her. There were tables to be repaired, pots to be collected, new glass and draperies for the windows needed to be procured or made by hand.
But taking stock of the work that needed to be done was not the reason she was there. Boxes of herbs brought from Ygriss had been dragged up to her favorite spot and the contents were spread into neat piles all around her. Several small linen pouches were piled at her side, a mortar and pestle lay directly in front of her.
Breathing deep, the girl began plucking from the piles. It wasn't lost on her that a few of the herbs she picked for her special brew were known for the power of the sun they held. If she was his sun, it only made sense.
St. John's Wort was placed into her little stone bowl, followed by a large pinch of Calendula. She recalled that the heart was ruled by the sun, therefore Calendula should, by her calculations, strengthen hers. A few other herbs were picked out for their energy and 'good feeling' qualities as well as a healthy dose of mint for flavor. Slowly she began to grind the leaves and flowers and roots, but something still felt off. Fear rose in her. Would it be enough? She had to get over this, had to make her own choices truely make her happy, even if she needed a bit of nature's help doing so.
An idea struck her.
She loosely tied the bags and placed them in a small basket and wandered to the infirmary. Once there, she moved to the small corner area that was mostly hidden by the shelves of supplies. Each bag was quickly untied and set out on the bed. The girl turned and looked over the shelves, and eventually she found several vials of what the healers used to treat people for pain. Of course, she assumed it was only a low doseage of poppy... and failed to read that she'd grabbed the bottles that also held another, more potent ingrediant. Some type of herb she was completely ignorant of. A bit was tapped into each bag, swiftly tied and she swept out of the infirmary, a triumphant smile on her lips. It was time for a test run of her new concoction before her meeting with Mother and Aerinne.
Little Sunshine Ryn was going to be
happy.
