| Dear Lord Somneri,
I had hoped to speak further with you about your role in my council, but of late I have far too many with whom I must speak and too little time in which to do it. Once Valys is in hand, I will seek out your council and your company.
I understand that you will be accompanying those I've sent behind the wall to Sarmagh, and for this I am quite grateful. A small contingent of my men will be providing protection for the party, and while I know you are not a military man, they will be at your disposal when it comes to the protection of my family and all in their company.
Lady Vorserkeine-Alexston, Roselyn's mother, will be meeting you in Evendale, and she will no doubt be delighted to meet the new Chancellor of Nharati. Do be certain to introduce yourself in such fashion to her, although be wary, or you may leave Sarmagh betrothed and without your horse. Jesting aside, Lady Vorserkeine-Alexston is a worthy ally, and I would suggest you use the opportunity to cultivate an acquaintance with her.
Doubtless I will have little time to attend to more day-to-day concerns while we are on the field, and those I must entrust to you for the time being. If you are uncertain of my wishes on any issue, Lady Wenfrith can provide you with the necessary insight.
And with that, I must close. I will see you again when Valys is once more in proper hands.

| A letter Drysllthen hid in Roselyn's trunk, hopefully to be found upon arrival in Sarmagh. My dearest Roselyn,
I scarcely know what to write in a letter such as this. War and politics seem far too calloused and likely boring, yet sweet nothings are a bit of foolishness that is beyond me. I can write little on tea or gowns that might entertain for my mind is focused on just how much of the castle your brother intends to leave me to rule.
It seems strange after all these years to have Valys within my grasp, and I confess, I often wonder if it is not once again the dream I've had so many times. Perhaps I shall wake at the last minute and find that I am merely a lost boy in a strange world. Whatever the dream, I confess that I am glad you have had a role in it, and should I wake, know that I would feel the lack.
So I leave it at this. I shall miss your wit and that rare sweet smile. I shall miss the comfort that I find at the end of the day returning to you and your distractions from the work that must be done, but I will not miss them for long. Soon you will be with me in Valys, my Queen.
Until I see you again,

| Darling,
I've no way of knowing when, or if this letter will ever reach your hands. I understand that the battlefield can be a complicated place, and even after triumph there are many things that need sorting out.
I've been feeling quite out of sorts lately. Perhaps it's simply due to the fact that my husband is away from me, and it feels as though there's something missing in my every day life. I believe that it may be the reason for this letter, to just feel a bit closer to something (someone, rather) that I cannot readily touch. I spoke with your mother the other day. We shared tea, and she helped me to become more comfortable, and I gave her a painting that I thought she might enjoy. Domestic life, it seems, has me tightly in its clutches in an effort to put my worried mind at ease. She is a remarkable woman.
I am proud of you, Drysllthen. Understand that word of your victories, and pending victories, has reached my ears at Sarmagh. It pleased me to receive your letter, though I laughed to know that I'd had it with me all along. I'll send this letter along with the fastest courier I can find in Sarmagh. Perhaps a level head and a strong horse will find this letter within your hands, soon.
Be well, Darling. I'll be eagerly awaiting word to return to your side.

| Dearest Mother,
Valys is won and with little cost to men. Neither I nor Tyltin nor General Alexston have taken any grievous wound.
I apologize for the shortness, but I have little time to write now. Give my love to those whom you know I would, and please tell Roselyn I shall write her soon. Your party and any who wish to accompany you should begin preparations. When all is secure, I will summon you to me.

| Dearest Mother,
Apparently Roselyn took it upon herself to come to me unescorted. She has arrived unharmed, thankfully, and will remain here. I hope her absence has not caused to great a worry.
Although there is a great deal of work left to be done, I think the castle would be served better by your party joining us. I know the displacement has been difficult on both you and Maeryn, and I would like to see you both settled once more. The atrium has been set aside for you both, and I hope it shall soon be full of green growing things.
I confess, I worry for you. Please join me as soon as sensible and forgive the brief letter. Writing them seems to be all I do of late.
