Dearest Christiana,
I hope you will be able to forgive me for writing rather than coming to you in person-- I have sent this letter back to Valys with a courier as I am already en route to meet some foreign nobles to be escorted back to Valwyn.
I have some unfortunate news regarding what would have been our official engagement... I will cut to the chase, my lady. King Drysllthen has forbidden me to marry you. Please do not take this as a personal slight, as I am certain he finds you to be nothing less than a perfectly charming woman-- He simply hopes to make a more politically sound match for me, doubtless with some powerful noble's daughter. I utterly detest the thought, between you and I, but my family is honor bound to him and I cannot openly disobey his commands.
I hope we can discuss this matter upon my return, but I understand completely if you never wish to speak to me again-- I was too hasty in my proposal, and I loathe that you will have to pay the price for my impulsiveness. I am sorry to have caused you any strife... more than I can express with the words I am granted. Be well.
Yours,
Kerrich
