Description: The was once a powerful and regal military commander here. Tall and brimming with strength and courage fit for tales told by bards. But in a few short years, it was all gone. The thinning form carried himself with what little nobility he could muster from the tragic recent events. A lifeless prosthetic arm made of thin full plate armor hung at his right side to give the illusion of normalcy, dulled hazel eyes surrounded by the weary bags of sleeplessness, frizzled dark hair and beard surrounding his paled face, a silent but noticeable struggle to every breath from his chest. He still wore the finest of clothes, often tunics denoting his former knighthood, but altered coat of arms to honor the new regents of the kingdom.
Character Background: The eldest of three brothers, Aksel was a born leader, proven when still as a teenager, he took over his father's estate after Lord Marillion's untimely death to illness. It was against a good many wishes when he placed himself into a military role, believing he could help more on the battlefield protecting his kingdom than he could partnering a major local trade guild. His insight and combat prowess was proven time and time again in his new career, his company earning the nickname of Marillion's Reapers. He was very well respected by his men for his selfless style of command, leading the charges and putting himself right into the thick of it with the rest of them.
That was until he fell in combat in a battle against a command of elite soldiers from the northlands. Gravely injured to the point of death, he was saved by the quick actions of his surviving soldiers and the expert hands of a mystic healer and her alchemist assistant. However, his right arm was forced to be amputated and the damage to his right lung causes his respiratory issues. The downward spiral of his life began...
Though King Raegnold retained him as a military advisor, it was not one a position that was taken seriously. Many of the nobles accused the appointment as mere sympathy. His loving wife turned cold to him in his new state of disfigurement and inability to retain much of an occupation, falling into the arms as a mistress to one of his former trade guild partners. A scandal that hasn't gone uncirculated. His youngest brother, Basil, was slain in combat, following his elder brothers footsteps, and the middle brother, Martine, soon after fell ill to a curious case of ergotism, suspected of being infected be a longtime import bread he was so very fond of. And then came the Raegnold's surrender to King Drysllthen, his beloved home he fought for being handed over to the hands of the enemy on a silver platter.
He's now a shell of his former regal self. His once powerful form thinning, his skin pale, and his eyes becoming increasingly lifeless, he spends his days trying to manage the Marillion estate (caring for his dying brother and his wife as well as Basil's widow and two young children), and performing the roles handed him by the new monarch until such time as he's removed from any political power. A situation he accepts will be dealt with him in due time. He appears to be a man ready for his deathbed. But then it should not be underestimated of what happens to a cornered animal either.
