Often mistaken for a youth because of his pretty face and slender build, the jeweller paid no mind to the ridicule of his more masculine counterparts, discounting them as either jealous or unrefined. For who could not find beauty in the deliberate chaos of blonde curls that cascaded to his shoulders? Or in the bright daring fashions in which he chose to garb himself? Perhaps he lacked their muscle and their stature, but he had skill and he had social standing, and more importantly, he had taste ..impeccable taste.

Character Background:

Jozef Skeffington, third son of the Skeffington clan of Hnestor, had grown up within the family business. Life in the estate perched high in the Karmenynn range had revolved around fine gems for as long as anyone could remember, the thegn family drawing from their own mines and trading both inside and out of Nharati.

Always a pale, thin creature, Jozef focused on the assessing and trade of gems rather than the mining and purifying for he lacked the constitution for such occupations, and eventually, his fine eye for quality of gems turned to design. Simple works at first, but each exquisitely wrought and with such attention to detail that Lord Skeffington was quick to finesse his son's talent, artists and sculptors brought in to help the lad learn the finer points.

He had devoured all they had to teach him, and before long, he was educating his younger siblings and cousins in the business as well as creating outrageous designs that, despite his father's reservations, sold well. Such success, while gratifying, left Jozef dissatisfied, and when he heard that the new King had made his Ealdorman's son Chancellor, he saw his chance. Eventually convincing his father to write letters of introduction for him and offer his son's skills in service of the crown, Jozef set about finishing his waiting commissions and creating an exquisite array of sample work to take with him, confident that Lord Somneri would agree to display such talent from his home county..after all, the more that saw it, the more coin trickled in.

Armed with his wares and an invitation from the Chancellor as well as accompanied by his underlings, Jozef set off to Valys to seek fortune and renown within the King's court and abroad.
